1st Birthday

Filed under: Weblog Introduction — fcg @ 8:21 am

Just looking at the Blog record - the most recent post marks the 1 year anniversary of the launch of the Insights Blog.

Of course since then Blogging has boomed - but the original intent - the unfolding of the dimensions of sustainable organisational growth in theory and practice - continues unchanged.

During that time the FCG website has changed significantly to reflect that there is now a community of people worldwide examining and working with the issues that FCG was formed to answer.

At last count the Leaders in Excellence Network had 180 members from 11 countries. Having previously reached a stable equilibrium - it has recently begun to grow more rapidly again.

Future events over the next few months include:

1. FCG Fourth Annual Practitioners Lunch
2. Automation of the Subscriber Membership Database
3. Precis’ published on the Theory of Sustainable Growth of the Firm
4. The updated paper on Integral Sustainable Growth theory is completed
5. The World First Club 451 Meeting; and
6. Completion of the Website Case Studies

The only question is when is the right time to make this work plublic.

Watch this space.

FCG Meeting of Minds

Filed under: Weblog Introduction — fcg @ 1:25 pm

On 2 July 2004 the third annual FCG Beginning of Financial Year Lunch was held. It’s a time when some of the best independent external and in-house consultants in WA can get together and take an afternoon off.

We usually get about two dozen people coming along all of whom do a special type of work. Those attending find lots of encouragement in the energy of, what I would consider to be, the most inspiring group of people I know, not only for their professionalism but also in the perspective they bring to what they do.

Included within the usual suspects this year were Mark Hevron, Naomi Bickley, Peter Bennett, Anita Kelleher, Marie Finlay, Jeff Pow, Graeme Sutherland, Jenny Pope, Karen Lane, Penny McNiff, Kim Bridge and Troy Hendrickson.

We’ll all look forward to next year.

1 million bloggers

Filed under: Weblog Introduction — fcg @ 9:30 pm

In a great talkback interview segment on Radio National this evening Sandy McCutcheon mentioned that the emergent blogger global community has grown from a handful of people pre-September 11 to now number around 1 million (and growing exponentially currently at 15,000 new blogs per day). The question raised was “Will blogs become the ‘coffee shops’ of the virtual world, providing a place to discuss and interpret truth within the mainstream media?”.

What blogging develops into will be very interesting. Following some general principles of the internet around ‘personal freedom of voice’ and ‘information discernment’ ~ expression with uniqueness may be one aspiration for the relevance of blogs such as ‘insights’.

Some of the political topical bloggers mentioned with crossovers into mainstream media were:

Tim Dunlop - Road to Surfdom
Ken Parish - Troppo Armadillo
John Quiggin - Crooked Timber

What is a Blog?

Filed under: Weblog Introduction — fcg @ 7:40 pm

A Weblog (in its simplest form) is a chronological journal available on the web, updated when the person maintaining it comes across something new or interesting.

The Insights Weblog is part of the next generation of ‘blogs’, where those working in emergent areas link into virtual communities of practice - finding a nexus place to connect up observations found around the web on a specific topic. It was one of the things the web was designed for.

Our Insights blog connects the Leaders in Excellence Network. This Network is made up of people interested in sustainable growth management - working in and around the themes of business management, strategy, leadership development and innovation in organisations.

If you want to be part of the community that Insights goes to - and you are already on our list- you do not need to do anything. You will get a short e-mail when there is a new post. It will have a link to the Insights weblog. You can view it, comment on it or ignore it. It will be there for review whenever. Passive or active - the choice is yours.

What will unfold are the keys to sustainable growth management - something you cannot find collected anywhere else.

If not on the list, and you want to know what happens next in your organisation - subscribe.

If you are on our list and have no interest in this (or have too much to worry about already) please unsubscribe.

About FCG

Filed under: Weblog Introduction — fcg @ 8:44 pm

FCG is Forsyth Consulting Group. FCG was formed with the purpose of sharing and integrating insights into sustainable growth.

Its reason for being is a vision that ‘all individuals and organisations find long term success and meaning in their work’.

People put so much passion and energy into what they do. The power of organisations where people come together in collective endeavour is where a real strength lies. When organisations with a real sense of purpose fail, so does human hope.

So why do organisations stop and decline and die? You would think we would have worked this out by now.

FCG was formed in 1999 to answer that question for the benefit of all (and has been doing so consistently since then). We do this by doing things a little differently.

Here is where we will share what we have learned and are learning day by day.

Why the rubic logo ? - it explains that here is where the fragments come together as an integrated whole - one by one in all their colours. All you have to do is wait and watch.

Introduction to ‘insights’

Filed under: Weblog Introduction — fcg @ 8:21 pm

Insights is the weblog of William Varey and FCG.

Insights was originally formed in 2001 as an e-newsletter to share interesting observations on what stops the sustainable growth of worthwhile organisations.

It discussed business dynamics, leadership, strategic thinking and, importantly, organisational learning. With the birth of the “insights” weblog, things have moved up a notch.

Here will be collected the essence of the truths about sustainable growth as we enter a world where:

“Life is Change. Growth is optional”.

The purpose of “insights” is to help you choose wisely.
